Since I’ve been on a more healthy kick and really focused on my fitness, I have been really into cooking my own meals. Ive found that my stomach doesn’t respond well at all anymore to processed and outside foods. Every time lately when I eat out with friends or get take out, I’m left with a very unhappy stomach.
With a little extra work, I’ve been able to find a meal plan and delicious recipes that work, and all are made by ME, so I know every ingredient and what exactly goes into my meals!
I have been following this color coded portion control meal plan, which has done wonders for me in keeping balanced macros and correct portions. Pairing up following the meal plan with my workout programs, I’ve seen greatly reduced bloat, feeling great, and great results.
On thanksgiving I didn’t have a traditional Turkey meal, but instead had a really delicious Middle Eastern meal, and it was AMAZING. Although, I did feel sick after having my third slice of pumpkin cheese cake and my third glass of wine…
I had a lot of Rice, carbs, and the other night at dinner I had way too much bread.
After eliminating certain things like dairy and bread from my normal diet (not completely, but just very much smaller portions), now when I overeat these things, my body has a reaction. I never realized how your body can change and react to things you used to normally eat!
It’s amazing to me how small tweaks can help your body feel a million times better. I realized the splurge and immediate satisfaction is not worth the uncomfortable and painful feeling in my stomach later in the evening!
Well, anyway, I discovered Blue Apron, which is a cooking/grocery service that every week delivers to you 3 different recipes with all of the needed groceries to complete those meals – and it is AMAZING.
It is a little steep for me, at 60$ a week, but it is much cheaper than what I was spending each week on normal groceries, so I have been saving by having these three main meals during the week and supplementing with small, cheap meals like ground turkey and veggies for the others! I am now spending close to 80$ a week some weeks, some weeks just 60$, depending on my leftover status and freezer status! Which is down from my normal 120$ a week (Guys, groceries in LA are damn EXPENSIVE! I’m only feeding myself!). The step by step instructions have been so great, and I have discovered so many different flavors I never realized I liked!
I have a huge collection of recipes now, and I literally love like 90% of the recipes I’ve made!
Each recipe is portioned for 2 people, and sometimes the portions are way bigger than what I would have, so if I’m really hungry I can eat it all or eat half of 1 portion and easily have leftovers for the next day! And in this way it is so easy to fit in the Blue Apron meals in my color coded portion control meal plan and stay on track!!
I’ve been super into Youtube lately, so I uploaded this video review with step by step for this one delicious recipe over on my channel the other week, check it out and let me know what you think!
If you are interested in trying Blue Apron, I have a few free meals I can send to friends, let me know!
** Disclaimer, this post is NOT sponsored by Blue Apron, Just something I wanted to share with you since it has been a big part of my meal planning and prepping these last few months! Honest review from me on my Channel! **
Loved this post and video, dear Andrea! I also feel different when I eat this and that 🙂 I mean, actually carbs or processed food, canned food. So I am paying more attention to what I eat and I like to cook. I liked that you can leave some portions to the next day and I loved you singing first first first 🙂 The rice looks good and I love squash. When I studied in San Diego, wow, that was expensive too, so I believe that LA is even more, for sure! Hope you have a great weekend! (By the way, only Always Believe is open to comments, people have been pointing out that to me 🙂 so just to mention it!
